Restaurant Review: La Khaima

La Khaima

142 Avenue Fairmount Ouest
Montréal, QC H2T 2M5

My friends and I have started a Restaurant Club in the effort to try all the amazing restaurants Montreal has to offer. This month our theme is North African.

La Khaima features yummy food from Mauritania. It’s a really fun concept with “family style” dining and is bring your own wine (always a plus!). First, the decor makes you feel like you are in a cozy tent. You have to take off your shoes before entering your table area, which is composed of lots of pillows and low seating.

The owner/ host came up to us and made some jokes about getting a camel for our friend who was running late. Finally we were all there and he was ready to present us with the menu. There is only 1 menu- which suited us just fine. We had mezzes, lentil soup (which was amazing, I ate 4 bowls of it), 3 mains (including a vegetarian one), dessert, hibiscus tea (served in a giant bucket), and mint tea. This food is mostly couscous based and has no lack of flavor. Both meat eaters and vegetarians were equally satisfied and full by the end of the long and chatty meal.

La Khaima is a warm, friendly, tasty, and veg friendly place that I highly recommend to any group looking for a fun dinner idea.
